Our first session is tomorrow

Our first session is tomorrow! July has come quickly. And all our equipment is ready for us to begin.

We have a large bag full of focus pads. This means that on the first session, we can be training a variety of techniques and actually make contact with something! We’ll also make some contact with each other, but we will keep that light-contact for now, while using the focus pads means we do some heavier-contact striking practice without hurting anyone.

You don’t need to buy a training gi before coming to the club if you don’t have one already. Just come wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that will allow for easy movement.

You can go barefoot (but please make sure your nails are cut and trimmed for safety!) or you can wear thin-soled indoor martial arts shoes (but preferably not trainers or boots, although we can potentially make an allowance for trainers if you have a medical condition or injury that makes these a good choice for you).

If you enjoy yourself and decide that you would like to take up this activity, then we have a box of gis in the two most common sizes, that you can try on and buy in person. We also have a box of elastic hand mits in different sizes, in case you would like a pair of these while your hands start to toughen up!

We also have a box of red belts. We won’t need them on the first night, but I believe that anyone should be able to achieve a red belt within their first month as long as you train attentively and receive good instruction. I’m confident in my teaching skills, so I’m pretty sure that we’ll be starting to hand out the red belts by the end of July! So this means we should be quite well prepared.

The club opens on Tuesday the 1st of July at the St Mary’s Millennium Centre in West Derby. (And the opening session will be free of charge to everyone.)

We would love to see you there! Please suggest this to any of your friends who might be interested. You would be welcome to give it a go.
